“state-of-the-art Studebaker automobile museum”

The Studebaker National Museum traces its roots to the late 19th century when Clement Studebaker purchased the Lincoln and Lafayette carriages. By the 1960s, the collection numbered 37 vehicles and included four presidential carriages, the first and last automobiles built in South Bend, and the last Studebaker ever built. The Studebaker National Museum is a state-of-the-art, 55,000-square-foot facility that opened in October 2005. The building is on three levels and features fully climate-controlled galleries and storage facilities to ensure the best possible care for the collection. The Studebaker National Museum was designed by South Bend’s own James Childs Architects and features several design elements from Studebaker’s factory buildings.

I've driven the route between Cleveland and Chicago for many years now and I'm surprised i didn't find this spot earlier. Incredibly friendly museum staff. We came rather late in the day and they just waved us in. Wonderful cars, even if you are not a car buff you can't but be impressed by the wide variety and beauty of these cars. I would definitely say stop by if you are in the neighborhood! :)

Great car museum and not just Studebakers. Great history lessons on the Studebaker and other 'Hoosier' auto manufacturers.

It was worth the stop. We arrived too late to tour the house, but we were still able to enjoy the car displays.

This museum is incredible. Cheap and HUGE and so well done! I planned on spending 2 hours here and ended up there for 4. I could've stayed longer. Get a tour of the mansion and work house! Can't say enough. Great curating.

I'm by no means a car person but this seemed like an OK place to stop and stretch our legs for a bit. I was pleasantly surprised! Awesome staff that were really knowledgable and fun to talk to on top of looking at some pretty gorgeous cars. A definite must on a long road trip.

If you are a Stude fan, or not, the SNM is a fun place. You can see the entire museum in about 2 hours if you are pressed for time, or like us take the afternoon to absorb all of the history. The best parts are seeing the restored cars, so many rare Studebakers. The museum is packed fairly tight with studies. There are three levels, if I recall correctly, it's, top floor, is pre WWII, second floor is post war, and the bottom floor is prototypes, and World War Two arms production.

This museum is absolutely beautiful. Be sure to take the time to visit the cars down in the basement. Spend plenty of time reading the very fascinating story of the Studebaker family and brand. One of 3 or 4 auto museums in Indiana you MUST visit.

My husband is into vintage cars, so this was a perfect stop. The staff were pleasant. We got a military discount on the entrance fee. We arrived an hour before closing, so we didn't read all of the information, their is a lot. The museum itself is small, only 3 floors, but they sure pack in the vehicles. Great history!

Nice place. Car lovers could spend several hours there. Easy parking, friendly staff. This place is a little out of the way, but worth the search.
