Culminating a year-long fund-raising campaign, Mississippi Valley Conservancy announces its acquisition of the property known as “Kickapoo Indian Caverns,” in southwest Wisconsin’s Crawford County. Under Mississippi Valley Conservancy’s ownership, the property will be open to the public year round for hiking, cross-country skiing, bird-watching, hunting and outdoor recreational activities. Guided hikes, volunteer work days, and other events will be offered.The largest show-cave in the Midwest with a maze of chambers and tunnels created by an ancient underground river flowing through bedrock limestone over thousands of years.

The caverns are "permanently closed" as the bat population there has been found to have a new illness. The department of conservancy has purchased the caves in an attempt to protect the bat population and the caves. Definitely check before you go to see if there has been any change in this status!

I would recommend skipping this one. We wanted to take this as a little road trip break but when we arrived it felt a been spooky and the main entrance was gated off. There is a trail sign that promotes it as a hiking area so we decided to still try and hike up and ended at an abandoned parking lot. I’m all down for adventures but as we walked down the pathway to the cave that was pretty overgrown we saw a large cage and got a very odd feeling we were not supposed to be there and turned around to book it back to the car. Later we read that the caves had been closed down because of the bay population having some rare disease. Still no explanation for the human-sized cage, but OVERALL JUST SKIP THIS...k? :)
