“home of America's highest single-structured sand dune”

Bruneau Dunes State Park boasts the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America with a peak rising 470 feet above the surrounding desert floor. Explore the dunes in your hiking boots or rent a sand board from the Visitor Center, but off-road vehicles are only permitted  on the main road. You can also fish for bluegill in the lakes at the foot of the dune; unlock the mystery of the desert with a breathtaking hike or horseback ride; plan a group picnic or visit the Bruneau Dunes Observatory and gaze at the night sky through the Observatory's collection of telescopes.

We stopped here on a trip across the country and it was one of the most unique camping experiences I've ever had. The staff was super friendly and the grounds were clean. They had free showers and the dunes were large and in charge. We stopped here in mid-July, so it was really hot, but it cooled down nicely at night. The observatory was a fun little on-site activity as well. Would definitely recommend!

Too hot end of June. We arrived after 5pm for an overnight stay, so the registration office was closed and no staff around. Pretty lonesome place if you like this, only two other sites were occupied. Campsites are not directly at the lake, so you need to walk 5 mins over smaller sand dunes. Wifi (costs $3 extra per day) was password protected, but the password was not posted anywhere. AT&T does not work out there, Verizon luckily does. Some jets from nearby Mountain AFB were practicing at night, which was a bit annoying. In summary a nice place though, but not worth the drive if you arrive late and don't plan to stay long in the morning.

Absolutely awesome. Totally worth the time it takes to drive out to it. A great place to picnic, but we also recommend giving yourself at least an hour there because it is a lot of fun to explore the dunes. We went in mid-September and the temperature outside was great--not too hot at all.

A great place to visit and hike. So long as it's from late fall to spring. Way too hot in the summer months

Very cool almost black sand dunes in the middle of nothing! The campground was really nice, the bathrooms clean. I wish there had been someone to rent the boards there after 5 because the kids were looking forward to it, but it’s an honor system to get in with reserved camp sites. The kids thought it was worth the drive out, but my truck is now covered with sand. Lol
