“one heck of an old suspension bridge”

The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River.

With a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m), it was the longest suspension bridge in the world from its opening until 1903, and the first steel-wire suspension bridge.

Originally referred to as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and as the East River Bridge, it was dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge, a name from an earlier January 25, 1867, letter to the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, and formally so named by the city government in 1915. Since its opening, it has become an icon of New York City, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1972.

It's the one touristy thing you have to do! The views are picture perfect. Just, whatever you do, don't walk in the bike lane!

Sure, it's touristy, but it's an awesome walk. Whatever you do, don't even think about stepping into the bike lane. Make that mistake, and the locals will verbally assault you into oblivion.

This masterpiece of structural engineering is famous to all people around the world. Nearly everyone has the picture of Brooklyn Bridge at their home, laptop, desktop or mobile phone. It is truly an eye jewel although its creation was typically functional.

We walked it, took our own pictures and enjoyed the view. I am very proud I could be part of the crowd walking on top of this piece of art!

Strongly recommended to all kinds of photographers.

The bridge is an imposing view all of its own, but if you have the time I would recommend taking an hour or so to walk across it and back. You get great views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as an appreciation for the engineering marvel the bridge was at its time of completion.

There's a great pedestrian walkway above the bridge. Just be sure to bring plenty of water if you're walking across on a hot day. I recommend the walk towards Manhattan, at sunset.

Such a cool view of Manhattan and Brooklyn as you're crossing it. Echo everything else said by others. Stay out of the bike lane. But also don't stop in the middle of the pedestrian lane to take pictures. Definitely worth taking a walk down to Dumbo for lunch on the grass below and catch the view from underneath as water traffic goes by.

The best free attraction in Brooklyn/Manhattan; the views of the Manhattan skyline are incredible, and the architecture of the bridge is just as amazing, on a sunny day this is the place you want to be.

You have to walk across and back and just take in it's amazing construction. Also, grab lunch or do a sunset walk across the bridge and catch dinner at the South Street Seaport just right next to the bridge on the Manhattan side.
