Located nearly 250 miles southwest of Denver, Creede is a small Colorado mountain town filled with shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation. If you’re looking for a quick escape from the city, this tiny town is perfect for weekend getaways.

Here are a few things you should do during your trip to Creede.

Where to stay. If you’re traveling by RV, you can camp for free at Rio Grande National Forest. This dispersed camping area offers incredible mountain views. Or opt to stay at the historic Creede Hotel located in the heart of downtown.

Dining. In town, you’ll find unique, must-try eateries like Kip’s Grill (which doubles as a laundromat) and Big Doug’s BBQ, an amazing spot for to-go orders or outdoor dining.

Shopping. There are several places to shop downtown. If you’re looking for outdoor gear, check out San Juan Sports. This store features a wine bar and for $5, hikers, backpackers, and campers can even take a hot shower at this stop.

Local events. When planning your visit, be sure to check out Creede’s event calendar, so you can plan your trip around fun activities like the town’s Salsa Festival.

Activities. One must-do activity in the area is driving Bachelor Loop Road. The 17-mile route takes you through the mountains to old mining structures and other historic sites.
