The Top 5 Moab RV Parks

Why Go RVing to Moab, Utah?

There is so much to see and do in and around Moab that it actually takes multiple trips to get it all in. That’s what I told a group of new RVers as we sat around the campfire dreaming of our next vacations. We all decided a visit to Moab was at the top of our list when they heard how great it truly is.

Moab is in Grand County on the eastern side of Utah. It is a popular tourist destination with two national parks, the Colorado River and the snow-capped La Sal Mountains just outside its door. It’s the perfect place to set up camp in one of the top 5 Moab RV parks you’ll learn about later.

Outdoor Activities Galore!

One cannot deny the beauty surrounding Moab. The red rock country of this part of the Colorado Plateau creates a haven for outdoor activities. Everything from hiking to off-road touring is offered in Moab. Regardless of the activity you choose, my advice is to get outside and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

While in Moab, I highly recommend visiting the national parks close by. Arches National Park is only 5 miles from town just off Hwy. 191, and Canyonlands National Park is a mere 32 miles away. Both parks have all the hiking you would want for a variety of skill levels. The landscape you’ll experience will be the show stopper so bring your camera to take ample photographs of sandstone arches and gorgeous sunsets.

The Colorado River treats visitors to everything from paddle boarding and kayaking to guided white-water rafting and fishing trips. Simply go to any of the rental outfitters in town to book one of their wide variety of packages. Or, take your own gear and enjoy a day on the water. You won’t regret hanging out in the river during Moab’s summer days.

Mountain biking and off-road vehicle trips are other ways to see the beauty that surrounds Moab. Moab boasts over 100 mountain bike trails of various difficulty levels. The Intrepid Trail System in Dead Horse Point State Park has 8 easy to moderate trails for mountain bikers, but pick up a map at the Moab Information Center for other trails around Moab. The Moab Information Center also has maps and trail guides for your off-road vehicle trip but heed the locals’ advice: Know your limits.

What If I’m Not An Outdoorsy Person?

If you are not into outdoor activities like the ones mentioned above, there’s plenty for you to do in Moab.

  • Eat out at one of the many restaurants after browsing in the shops and galleries downtown.
  • Take a drive on the scenic byways of the area.
  • Attend a class or special cultural event at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center.
  • Learn about dinosaurs at The Moab Museum or Moab Giants Dinosaur Park.
  • Grab a Movie Locations Auto Tour brochure to find where movies like Thelma and Louise were filmed.
  • Or, just relax while staying at your favorite RV park.
