The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill makes the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile look like a weenie
Summer is here, and that means two things: grilling out, and road trips. But, if you thought that the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile was impressive, then the Johnsonville Big Taste Grill will blow your mind.
Johnsville, the sausage company, decided to combine our two favorite summer things, grills and road trips, into one epic experience: the Big Taste Grill. It’s the world’s largest grill, and it’s totally mobile. That means that you’ll find it traveling across the country, bringing freshly-grilled tube meats to the masses!
Some stats on the Johnsonville Big Taste Grill: It’s 65 feet long, 20 feet tall, and 6 feet in diameter, with 40 square feet of grilling surface. The 6,000-pound lid is operated with a hydraulic lift system, and once it’s opened and the grill is fired up, it can cook 750 brats at a time. That’s 2,500 sausages per hour! There’s also a fridge on board that holds half a ton of sausages. There’s even a walkway for chefs so they can man the grill and running water for the post-cook-out clean-up. It’s been around serving up sausage-y goodness since 1995!
The Big Taste Grill also partners with local charities at each stop to raise money for a good cause. You can catch it on tour at festivals and events across the country, from the Bristol Motor Speedway to Cedar Point, and loads of places in between. It’ll wind down its travels in October, probably so that sausage production can catch back up after the grill spends the summer peddling massive amounts of it. Find out where you can catch the grill, and keep up with the fun!
